Gas City Tigers were an independent club around the 1920s. The team played most of its games at home. Most of their history is forgotten but the 1920 season is well documented. The first game of the season was against the Muncie East End Ramblers in a 89-0 victory. They followed it up with a 97-0 victory over the Alexandria Tigers. Seven days later Greenfield Flyers Seconds headed to Gas City, Indiana and lost 124-0. Following up back to back shutout victories the Wabash A.A. were defeated 14-6 in Gas City. Gas City would go on the road for the only time in 1920 to play the Kokomo American Legion at Exposition Park and the Tigers won 14-3. Louisville K&I would be defeated 22-0 the following week by the Tigers. The Tigers would win again in a 27-0 victory over South Bend Rum Village Athletic Club. Kirklin Independents would head to Gas City and lost 21-0 to the Tigers in mid November. Logansport Legion would try to defeat Gas City but they were shutout 35-0. The Gas City Tigers would end their season aginst the Muncie Flyers of the APFA. The Muncie Flyers would prevail winning 19-7 in Gas City. The Muncie Flyers repeated the performance the following week winning the rematch 13-7. The Tigers went 9-2 in 1920 only losing games to the Flyers of the APFA (later to be known as the NFL).
Pro Football Historian (PFH) is a blog page written by Flint Given. Pro Football Historian or PFH is a page to inform people on prior NFL events that people might not know about. Learning about teams from the 1920s or even the first few NFL World Championships in the 1930s fascinates me. It's these kinds of events that I want to discuss in this blog. Hopefully you are interested and will continue to check up on my blogs.
