Who Were The Flint Independents?

The Flint Independents were a football independent football team founded in 1914. The team played teams in Michigan, most of which in Flint or Detroit. The Flint Independents played home games in Flint, Michigan at Athletic Park. The team over its history had little success against top of the level competition. In their first season the team went 6-1 only losing to the Detroit Heralds (a team that later joined the APFA) 28-0. The team shutout the Detroit Argonauts twice (26-0 and 24-0) and also shutout the Detroit Trumbulls (7-0). The Flint Independents also won 83-0 against the Detroit Gemmers. The fifth game of the season was a 24-13 victory for Flint over the Windsor Independents. Following that win the Flint Independents won 82-0 over the Mount Clemens Tigers before losing to the Heralds in the last game of 1914. The team would play a few more seasons before folding after the 1920 season, the team did not play in 1918.
